Zhm Programme

In the different stages of their studies, PhD candidates have varying needs relating to their professional development and career. To support each participant individually, the Graduate School for Materials Science offers events and workshops that fulfil the needs according to all stages of PhD studies as well as the postdoctoral phase.

1st year programme

The Graduate School for Materials Science fosters 1st year PhD candidates through workshops on key competences such as time management & presentation techniques during the Summer Schools. Through the participation in, e.g., the yearly symposia, new PhD candidates network with experienced PhD candidates and postdocs for scientific exchange. Further workshops on key competences will be offered on demand.

2nd year programme

2nd year PhD candidates are supported in the development of their key competences through workshops on, e.g., leadership and scientific writing offered in the yearly Summer Schools. In the annual Symposium, the PhD candidates have the opportunity to further develop their presentations skills through poster presentations and talks. Thereby, a forum for scientific exchange and mutual feedback on the research projects is created. Additionally, they get the chance to implement theoretical knowledge from workshops they attended in their first year. Further workshops on key competences will be provided on demand.

3rd year programme

In the 3rd year of their studies, PhD candidates of the Graduate School for Materials Science are supported in their career planning through the announcement of job fairs and the invitation of industry representatives to the annual Symposium. As a consequence, the participants are able to get in contact with potential future employers in academia or industry. A focus on career is also set in the annual Summer Schools, as training on job application and interview are provided as well as workshops on career management. In addition, this event fosters the formation of networks and mutual exchange among the participants. Further workshops on key competences will be offered on demand.
